We have a shared area where we want users to be able to place files but not delete them. Currently when users add files to the area they cannot delete other users files but can still delete their own as they are the owner.

Is there a way to remove their access to these files so they cannot delete them?

This is an NTFS formated volume on 2003 server.

thanks.

Keep everything as it is, but add on a generic group (possibly domain users, but probably best to have your own custom one) for all non-admin users. Keep the security permissions all null for everything other than deny against the delete and delete files/folders permissions in the advance tab of the security permissions.

Should do the trick.

Cheers,

Steve.

Hi Steve

I had already managed to solve this issue by removing the Creator Owner group from the permissions list, i'd spent ages on this creating a group for all of the users and hadn't seen this obvious issue.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Permissions are one of those things - looks so easy initally until you have to drill down and realise just how messy it can be!

Glad you go it sorted.
