There is a command that I would like to run as myslef, currently, i have added myslef to its group. But when I run the command I am still getting 'access denied?'

Hi,

When you add yourself to this particular group, have you logout and log back in? Can you run "id -a" and check make sure your new group is there. If possible can you ls -l filename that you trying to run.
