I hope that maybe one of the members here has seen this issue. It is a long story so let me first post the issue, then the items we have already looked at in the system.
When CE 8.5 goes to initiate it's clean-up process for old instances (We have it set to 10 instances max per report type and 90 days max for an instance to be available to the client), an error is generated within the Event Viewer (Application). The actual report instance / file is removed but it leaves behind the corresponding folder and an error message. The message is as follows:
Error - Crystal_Outputfileserver
System Problem Error: Fail to remove file D:\"Apps\Crystal Decisions\Enterprise\Filestore\Output from the system. Please check for permission and sharing violation.
These issues are constant and number in the hundreds to thousands per day. We fear that it may be creating undue resource usage from the APS, which seems to be the weak link in the system.
Currently, we are seeing no impact that we are aware of, although we have had a few anomalies such as one of the APS services shutting down unexpectedly, but we cannot really say it is due to this issue.
Some facts to assist:
The entire folder structure and files for the "Output" folder were synchronized and copied across a pipe from Ill to TX. We used "RoboCopy" to copy and sync the folder / files everyday until we went live. (Possibly leaving hooks in the objects sync'd?)
The original environment was in a domain whereas the new is in a workgroup. (Crystal has not tested the application is a Workgroup environment)
IPSec is being used in the new, and was not present in the old. (Just more mud to cloud the troubleshooting)
NT was the old OS and Windows 2000 Advanced Server in the new. (Certainly there are differences associated with the security for files and folders)
Any new files created since we went live delete both the file instance and the associated folder, files that were moved from the old to the new do not remove the folder but it does delete the report instance.
Security audits for anything attempting to access the folders / files in question has been run for over a week, no "failures" were recorded. I would think that this would take permissions out of the picture.
APS, Job Server, Output Server and WCS tracing was done and Crystal was unable to see anything out of the ordinary.
Everyone full Control was applied to the folders.
Ownership was removed and added back in to ensure that it was taken properly.
All accounts are set up with full control. Does not seem to be an access issue.
Any clues? Thanks!
