perm and ftp write issues to /var/www/html

RH 8 setup w/Apache. Can't ftp files (put) into /var/

http://www/html

(docroot). Can however get a dir list.

Also, from the console only root can actually create files in that dir. Anyone else who tries gets "E212: can't open file for writing". This appears to be a permissions issue. Who should own /var/

http://www and/or

/var/

http://www/html,

and the files therein?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Give the user that is FTP'ing group permissions on the folder(s) in question.
