HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Question:

What would give better performance? A Pentium Pro CPU with 1MB Cache, or a PerformaPRO CPU with 128k Cache?

Pentium Pro = 200Mhz & 1MB Cache
or
PerformaPRO = 533Mhz & 128K Cache

I think nearly treble the clock speed more than makes up for less cache!!
The 533 should be much quicker! Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

I don't think the difference would make it worth the money.

Don't underestimate the difference an onboard cache makes - especially when it's as huge as that. Clock speed isn't everything, and those Evergreen upgrades are only OK.

Save your pennies and get an Athlon+motherboard+memory - your Ppro case should be ATX. You could then upgrade the Athlon's case later, and have a nice network going.

Linux runs like a demon on Ppros.
