I am looking for tips of performance tuning for SQL Server 7.
Our setup is:
Cluster (2 NT 4.0 Servers), 1 is failover only

We are continually getting blocks and deadlocks over the simplest of queries. have had the SQL evaulated but no problems there. We think it is in the settings of SQL Server itself? I know this cannot be answered easily but can anyone point me in the right direction? handy website, dedicated forum? Thanks.

Thanks, been to that site already. I guess I'm asking a question that could only really be solved by buying more Compaq consultancy! Cheers.

Mark, are you getting blocks/deadlocks while running ad-hoc queries, as opposed to everyone running a particular application? If the former, can you give us an example of one of the queries, along with what indexes exist on the affected tables? Robert Bradley

Not possible. Entire server dedicated to one application. Personally i think the app is badly designed and not condusive to scalability but the sql used is basic, very few subqueries being used and if they are, are corelated and tables at least are indexed well. I think I'm passing this one to Compaq.
