So, I know we have to upgrade to x64, so we have nice new hardware with great gobs of RAM and smoking processors....

But has anyone monitored the DB performance and Disk I/O?
Is there marked improvement?

Is my 14x15K-Ultra320 going to be wasted?

all these questions and more!

32GB? would you call that overkill?
I mean, you could keep a mailstore in memory.

Not my mailstore, but there are small companies that could...

That's not overkill. System runs great. Even some of my smaller servers with 8GB of RAM run great.

With 64 bit computing comes the break from the 4GB of RAM problem. Throw more RAM at the box and you'll find that Exchange 2007 really flies. Really flies.

Not only are you going to drop your disk I/O by 70% as Pat says but you go to disk less often for db reads as more can be in RAM. You also give more to the OS so there is less paging going on.
