I HAVE A PENTIUM PRO P61440FX MAINBOARD THAT SUPPORTS UP TO A PENTIUM PRO 200 CPU. I WAS GOING TO INSTALL A LARGER HARD DRIVE, BUT MY MANUAL DOESN'T TELL ME HOW BIG A HARD DRIVE THIS BOARD WILL SUPPORT. ANYBODY KNOW?
Most of the PPro motherboards I have used are limited to 4gb without a bios update. If you check on the manufacturer's web site, you will probably be able to download a bios update that will allow larger drives. Read the warnings on the web site about bios updates. Installing a bios update is a risk. A failed update can leave your motherboard totally unusable.
I had just installed an WD 10gig drive on a Pentium Pro and used the WD EZ-Drive bios software that came with it. That seemed to work fine. Haven't had a problem with the drive at all.
