Hi Guys,

Im currently working on a peer-to-peer network with 20+ workstations, most running Win95/98 but introducing Win2000 workstations now. Have setup a new PC with Win2000 running Netbui and TCP/IP (with static IP address).

After a lot of fiddling, can sometimes see some PCs, then all PCs..very variable. When I can see them cant map to their shared folders. To me seems to be too many PCs running netbui and prob broadcast storms..

Any clues to what the issues and how to fix...

Thanks

Get rid of NetBEUI, Set up the LMHOSTS.SAM file with the IP address and Computer name of all the machines.(Would do the same as a WINS server). Its a pain but without a dedicated authentication server and the fact that your peer to peer network has more than 20 machines you should be used to problems (I assume you have had a lot lately).

Give that a shot and let us know how it went.

Thanks,

Trying to migrate to full TCP/IP with LMhosts. Having all sorts of problems with a DOS application running over the network with file lock etc probs.....

I just got a new gateway system and am setting up a peer to peer network to my old gateway, i have done it before but I am running into a problem, the new system doesn't have Netbui on it for some reason and gateway told me to reinstall everything! What should I do? I don't trust gateway! Someone please help.

If you mean your old computer from Gateway rather than linking to a gateway / router:

Install same protocol onto both and they should talk to each other.

Would recommend NETBEUI if there are only 2 of them.
