I built 5 clone PC's for my aunts realstate office to replace 5 slow existing computers.

I finished the hardware portion of it but before I get started transfering data I'd like to get some ideas.

Her network consist of about 10 peer to peer PC's wich are sharing resources and printers.

The first step I took was joining the new PC's to the Workgoup.

My next step is to back up her data by:

1.Burning into CD's
2.Installing old HD as a slave in the PC.
3.Sharing the C:Drive on the old PC and transfering the files via the network into an additional partition on new PC.

My question is if I do 3 and copy the entire old HD into the new PC over the Workgroup will I have to reinstall application?

They use WINPIONT and other realstate s/w used to store their clients information could they lose valuable data?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I forgot to mention the existing PC's use a combination of 98se and XP pro and the new PC's have XP pro with NTFS.

It is more than likely that a reinstall of software will be required.

There will be files that reside in the System folder on existing machine that will need to be reinstalled and registered and there will more than likely be registry entries that would need to be recreated.

There are other things that might need consideration such as .ini files.

There is no harm in trying and there should also be in-built backup options with software such as client software. Allowing you to back-up the user database.

Thank you for your advice but I have one other question if I use NTBACKUP and burn it to a DVD will I be able to use restore backup on a different PC?
