PROBLEM CLARIFICATION
This article provides the procedure to change the peer Exchange 2000/2003/2007 server in Modular Messaging (MM).
SOLUTION
(Optional) Create an Outlook profile for the Octel Voice Mail Domain (VMD) mailbox in the Octel container, but Outlook MUST NOT be running during the backup of the special message. This step can be done from any machine except a Messaging Application Server (MAS). Log on with an account with sufficient permissions to access all mailboxes (such as the MM service account). Run “SpMsgUtl.exe /s filename.dat”, and select the newly created profile when prompted. Verify the special message is saved successfully, however, it will only be used for recovery purposes
Go to the Voice Mail System Configuration (VMSC) on each MAS in the VMD, and under "Messaging" change the Mail Server Name"Microsoft Exchange Server Name" from the Peer server name that is going out of service to the Peer server that is coming into service. This *MUST* be completed on *ALL* MAS servers that use the same peer before proceeding. Do not Stop/Start the MM application service yet. You will do so in a later step
Using Microsoft Exchange... Active Directory Users and Computers, go to the "Octel" container (Note: You may need to choose View menu, and select Advanced Features in order to see the Octel container in Active Directory Users and Computers)
Look at or sort by the column titled "Exchange Mailbox Store". You can quickly tell which mailboxes are on the MAS Peer server (You may have to add "Exchange Mailbox Store" because this column is not displayed by default and must be added to the view)
Press the "Ctrl" key and use the mouse to select each mailbox that needs to be moved to the new Peer server. (Note: the "Octel VMD" object and the "External Caller" objects for each MAS server MUST be moved to the new Modular Messaging (MM) Peer server
Once all the objects that are to be moved are selected, right click the mouse and choose "Exchange Tasks" from the menu. 7. The Exchange Wizard will be launched
Choose "Move Mailbox", then choose "Next".
Choose the new Peer server (this should be the same as the "Peer server that is coming into service" in Step 2.
Choose the Storage Group you want the mailbox objects moved to.
Select "Next".
Select "Finish". Before selecting Finish, check to see that the mailboxes were moved successfully.
Stop/Start the MM messaging application service.
Check the Event Viewer to make sure that the MAS started correctly and that the Peer server is online.
Test that changes to the Octel VMD object actually take affect by changing a setting such as the "Trace File Size".
Test the system by calling in and leaving a voice message to one or more users and by calling in via the Telephone User Interface (TUI) to retrieve your voice mail message.
