pdf printing on a 5m laser printer problem

I am a little confused about an issue I am hving with our HP 5M postscript, color laser printer. I can print placed photos (tiff files), both color and grayscale just fine out od Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. However if I try to print the same images out of Quark, Indesign, or if I make a pdf out of these programs, the photos look posterized. Any ideas what is going on? They all print fine to our Techtronix laser printer.

Which driver are you using?
Have you tried both pcl5c and the postscript driver?
