PDC-BDC

Hi guys,

If I have two boxes running NT 4, one being the PDC and the other one the BDC, which one of them handles more load? The PDC or the BDC? I recall I heard (or read) somewhere that the BDC is the one that handles most of the load...

I don't really know the answer to that but unless you have thousands of users even the load from being a DC is not large so the difference has to be negligible.

I know when a client requests a DC from WINS it gets a list of them all. After that I don't really remember but I seem to recall some wacky scenario, sends request to them all and takes the first one that comes back or something.

Of course thats if you are using WINS.

If not you could control it yourself with LMHOSTS files and DOM entries.

If no WINS and no DOM entry in LMHOSTS??? Broadcast of some sort if anything I guess. Then it depends on segments and wheter the routers between them pass broadcasts......
