I have a Compaq Armada 1580 DMT with a Xircom RBE 10/100 NIC. The card works fine in windows, and on other laptops running sco, but not on the Compaq. I can ping and telnet without any problem, but as soon as I ftp somewhere, the laptop locks up - keyboard does not respond at all, until I eject the card. Then it all comes back - but of course ftp never connects to the host. Xircom is no help and their "email" tech support has given up saying it's something peculiar to the Compaq. Compaq is no help since they do not support SCO on this machine - and certainly do not support Xircom. I do not understand what ftp does that would cause the laptop to lock up.<br>
I also tried a Kingston PC2 card (10 mbit) and it too sometimes has a problem where the card just stops responding. The machine does not lock up, but if I run ping, it will just pause for 10 seconds to up to 5 minutes and then start up again. Kingston used to have a "hot" problem with the card, but I actually sent the machine to them and they could not duplicate the problem. If anyone has any experience with the Compaq Armada and NIC cards, I would appreciate a response. Thank you.
