Hi there!
I wanted to install a PCMCIA Network Card to my old Hyundai laptop, but I encountered the following problem.
The computer recognized two unknown peripheral units. I installed the Plug & Pray Drivers from W95 for one unknown hardware as a PCMCIA Conector and the PC NetCard drivers for the other.

The PC-Card Conector was OK, but the Network was not correct installed. I tried with the W95 network drivers and nothing happened.

Then I reinstalled everything and put the two unknown units as PC-Card conectors, with this gave Windows no problems more. But then it didn't recognized the PCMCIA Network Card. It searched for new hardware, but found nothing. I installed directly the Netcard but didn't work either.

And last but not least, after I tried that W95 didn't work propertly. Now it wants to execute Scandisk everytime I reboot, and if I skip it, it say there's a failure and I must reboot. If I allow that, then come the Scandisk searching for Hard drive failures, but I don't want Windows to "repair" the hard disk, since the HD is not damaged, but if I skip its "repairing", it doesn't allow me to enter to the system.

What am I doing wrong??? I accept that I have not so much experience with laptops :-)

Thanks in advance,
John Smith

John Smith,

You have a lot going on there!
There are only a few manufacturers of pcmcia slot controllers. You will need to find out from Hyundai, which company manufactured the one on your laptop's motherboard. In fact, the Hyundai web site might have the correct drivers for your unit. I would start there.

Also, I'd suggest you look into upgrading from Windows 95, to Windows 98, for several reasons:

1.) Microsoft has announced that it will no longer support Windows 95, although I'm not sure when that officially goes into effect.
2.) Windows 98 has a FAR greater level of support for USB devices, pcmcia cards, and more.
3.) Windows 98 contains a HUGE supply of drivers.
4.) Windows 98 does not suffer from limited TCP/IP bindings.

If you choose to go to the Hyundai site to get drivers, have the information about your specific model laptop ready.
