Have recently taken ownership of a CMI8738 6 channel PCI sound card.

On installing and restarting my PC, after a few seconds it hangs.... nothing to be done but switching off.

Cannot get to the stage of updating drivers or checking for conflicts...

Anyone seen this?

Also, boot into safe mode and go into the Device manager and remove all instances of sound devices. This way Windows will not try to load anything and will then get into the desktop where it will then (hopefully) find and install your sound card.
