I have a user who deleted some files and folders off of her PC. She inadvertently deleted some important files and now her PC will not reboot. I am receiving the following error: NTLDR is missing. I tried booting from the CD but received the same error. Any suggestions on how to get this back up without losing all the data? Thanks in advance for assistance rendered.

Do you have access to a Windows XP Pro disk. If so use "Recovery Console" to repair the PC. If not I have no idea.

change bios to boot from cd, place w2k cd in drive on the first screen go to set up 2000 not repair... on the second screen then do a repair it will run through all the set up but wont delete any of the files or any programs install. all will work fine after,
I know I do it evey thing I get a new machine in as I install from a ghost image with all the software on,but the hardware configuration is different so windows wont boot.

hope this helps

amubis - isn't that XP you're describing? With 2k you have to choose the repair option first (rather than setup), then get option to repair (R) or recovery console (C). XP detects existing installation if you pick setup & offers to let you repair it.

I copied NTLDR & NTDETECT to an ERD disk and I was able to boot up the machine. After backing up personal files, I rebooted the machine and received the same error NTLDR. I also received this error when try to boot from the CD. Again I used the ERD disk to get through the boot process, except this time I booted up in safe mode with the command prompt. I ran the repair from the CD device from here and repaired the OS using the ERD. Everything works fine now but I had to reinstall some drivers. Thanks for all the tips.
