Seems to have developed over time and has now got to the point where it really bugs me, but the sound from my PC is now very crackly (For want of a better word). Doesn't matter what it is I'm playing, or what I'm playing it with. I can hear everything I'm supposed to but it's like there's a crackling noise round the edges, just like a radio station that isn't quite tuned in.

Any suggestions - Can a dusty soundcard do that - Connections somewhere perhaps?

Cheers

without any further information I would try a new set of speakers, if this is not the problem might try a new sound card, if it is an add-on card. Could try updating your sound card drivers.

It is most likely a contact problem. Maybe the contacts between the 1/8" stereo connector and your sound card. Depending on your speakers, you may have another plug at the speakers. Then, if you have speakers with volume and/or tone controls, it could be the contacts with those.

Volume controls om powered speakers have a horrible history of going noisy. Contact cleaner sometimes will help the situation, but with speaker sets selling for $5 or so it probably isn't worth messing with it.

OK, I'll give the contacts a go first - Cheers guys, appreciate it.

seen it a few times.. unplug all speaker connections, wipe off the connectors, and use some canned air and knock the dust out of your machine and off the sound card. also check positioning of speakers vs any wireless devices like blackberry or cell phones.
