Hi, I have been using Quark Xpress 6.5 on a PC using Windows XP for sometime and printing to PDF without any issues (I use Adobe Acrobate Standard 6). I have recently started to use a new corporate font "Siemens Sans" which have been specifically produced for Siemens companies. When I print this font from a Quark document to a PDF it prints out as Squares as if the font has not been installed. I have managed to install a PCL driver for our HP Laserjet printer which works fine and can print word documents using the Siemens font to PDF without any problems. It seems the only combination that is causing me printing problems is Quark to PDF. I'd really appreciate anyones advice on this.

Are you sending all fonts in the postscript file to distill?

Is your PDF printer set to include all fonts?

Have you tried to export a PDF file from Quark instead of printing to PostScript?

I'm glad you're able to make PDFs out of 6.5 on Windows XP. I have not been so lucky. Can you provide me with some tips in making PDFs from 6.5. I have Acrobat 5. I have to save my 6.5 files down to 5.0 to make PDFs. HELP! Please.

I have to save my 6.5 files down to 5.0 to make PDFs.

What part of this statement is supposed to make sense?

Quark 6.5 can export PDF natively, without Acrobat.

Dear Picklefish, Your sarcasim warms my heart but doesn't give much information. The export to pdf wasn't working in 6.5. We kept getting error messages saying to select a postscript printer. Once we remedied this problem we were able to make a pdf. However, when saving to Quark 5 we simply printed to the distiller and had more control with how we wanted the pdf to look. I'm back in the game but not ecstatic about the Quark Publisher package. Considering a change to InDesign.

Thanks, anyhow.

No sarcasm was intended. I seriously wanted to know what you meant as it did not make much sense. I could not give much of an answer since the question lacked details.

If you check the Quark manual about PDF export, you will see how to set up a PostScript printer.

You can also print to Distiller from Quark 6.5, just as you can from Quark 5.

Still working on printing to Distiller from Quark 6.5. They (IT) just changed my operating system from Windows 2000 to XP so several things are hosed up. I've spent several days with the tech to fix drivers, setups, preferences, fonts and defaults back to normal. This morning I couldn't even print an email and now I can make a pdf in Quark 6.5. Hooray!
