This is the original message:
Hi,
A friend of mine has a PC which is just over a year old! It's an intel Pentium 600EB with 128Mb 133Mhz RAM, a 3Dfx Voodoo 3 3000 AGP graphics card, SBLive OEM sound card and an internal modem.
When he tried to boot it the power lights and fans came on but nothing else! The internal speaker then sounded a two-tone alarm after about ten seconds!
It did that for a while then nothing but a quick flicker on the power light and nothing else. I always suspected a faulty mothboard but others have suggested RAM and the PSU. The latter have been tried unsuccessfully. Before I tell him to risk buying another motherboard, are there any other suggestions? Oh, he has a Jetway mothboard!
END
Let me make it clear guys, the power lights do NOT now come on. There is a flicker when you press the button and then NOTHING. No lights, fans, alarms, beeps, - anything. It is not the PSU. I have tried others and then in another machine and they work fine. Could it be the case switch? If not, I'm fairly sure it is the motherboard but again it's not my money... Surely if it were the graphics card, memory or CPU the power light would still come on on the case and the PSU fan would turn? The motherboard is the only other device that handles the power after it's left the PSU so I cna't think of any other cause.
Ideas from the wise amoung you?! - Thanks!
