sorry for dbl posting - think the other one is in the wrong bit of the forum

Was upgrading my memory just now on PC
after installing in a way that i have done before - just add the new ram in
then booted the PC - everything seems to come on but there is no video output to the monitor

i put the pc back exactly how i found it before the upgrade

have taken the video card out and put it back in
the fan on the GPU goes around ok
i have a keyboard plugged in and when the computer is on the lights for CAPS LOCK doesn't work anymore
have plugged USB memory stick in and am getting power to it
hard drive is doing something - though doesn't look like much
pressing the off button does not turn the computer off, as if it was only the video out that was not working (but holding it for some time will)

Basically how do i work out if its the mother board or if its the graphics card?

Thanks

Motherboard - Asus A8N SLi Standard S939 NF4

Take the new ram out and see if it will boot.

You can't delete (or even edit) a post.

will give it a go. No RAM what so ever? I have already tried with just one slot of ram filled in with one of the orginals - no joy

1.) does the PC POST and/or does it give any indication that it is booting up? are there any error codes/beeps... if not continue with step 2. if there are any beeps, please list them here...

2.) check the CPU fan, especially the cable and see if it is seated correctly...

3.) check all connectors from the PSU, IDE or SATA cables, for correct seating... remove the PWR Connector and short the pins with a screwdriver, if it powers on and you get video then replace the PWR switch...

4.) see if the GFX card is seated correctly, slight notch off and voila no boot...

5.) CLEAR the CMOS, some mobo's are kinda strange and they do not like changes unless the BIOS is in the default mode...
