Terminal Services in Remote Administration Mode is free.
pcAnywhere is not.

If you are wanting direct console access (i.e To run programs on the server) via a remote source then pcaw is your best bet. However if you do not require console access (simply to administer the server) the Terminal Services would be ok.

Some programs do not take kindly to two instances being open at one time on one server, which could potentially happen if you use Terminal Services.

You cannot watch the pre logon and logoff activities with Terminal Services as your connection is cut long before the server returns to the logon screen. With pcaw you can go right back to the logon screen without ending your session.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Have you considered using VNC. It's a good alternative to TS and pcAnywhere and it's also free.

Hope this helps.

PS. I use it for Win2K, XP, Win2K Servers and Unix/Linux boxes. Even works on my HPC!
