Sorry for the silly question, but it would help me a great deal if someone could answer the following question. Is it possible to connect an internal line of one PBX, to an internal line of another PBX (e.g. dial 114 from PBX A and answer the call at PBX B line 114)? Is FXS the answer to it?

A point to point T1 to each system and you E&M lines will do the trick, consult your telephone vendor!! Jeter@LasVegas.com

Yup, E&M is normally the signaling used for tie lines. But what I think you're talking about is unplugging a phone on each and connecting the lines together, right? The short answer is probably not since the line is probably digital. If it's analog, however, you have a couple options. Are they close to each other or will the signal have to transverse a WAN line? So many possibilities, could you define more?

jgercken, correct. The line I was talking about is analog and yes the signal will have to traverse a WAN line. We're talking about a few mile distance.. This is why I mentioned FXS as the propable solution.
Thank you very much for your help.

Yea, a couple FXS cards would work but have you considered a couple trunk cards for the PBX's and splitting out some DS0's from your CSU/DSU (Assuming you have a T-1)?

Cheapest FXS solution:
1750 + VIC-2FXS = $900 ish (used)

you could have the PPP t1 and have an adtran 750 installed, this would break voice (analog) and data (digital). Consult your Telco provider on the cost.

There are Adtran TSU 600's w/ 1 DSX and (4) FXS cards going on ebay now for ~$300. The TSU 600 is a modular CSU/DSU. That would fit your needs perfectly, once again assuming you have a T-1 or Frame.
