Have a question regarding redundency on an Avaya 8730 with CM 5.1.2. I have just taken over this and this is my first encounter with a fully networked Ip based switch so please bear with me.

How do I verify if all my cabinets are redundant?

When I do a "li ipserver-int" command this is the result

7B01 170.34.64.43 170.34.64.43 ipsi-A07b IN standby 0.0.0.0

I see a stand-by but I also noticed that they are both on the same VLAN. How can I configure this so that if one Vlan does go down then another would kick in so I dont lose the cabinets?

I am assuming that the IPSI card is my Ip connection to the s8730.

Please correct me if I have this all wrong.

You have to change the addresses, and confirm you Network guys have properly subnetted:

1.) change ipsi 4 using ASA for example
2.) **change ip address on IPSI itself using a cross-over cable.
2a.) busy ipsi that you want to change using ASA
2b.) [IPADMIN]show control interface
2c.) [IPADMIN]set control interface (ipaddress x.x.x.x subnet 255.255.x.x)
2d.) [IPADMIN]exit and log back in
2e.) [IPADMIN]set control gateway (default gateway)
2f.) [IPADMIN]exit and log back in
2g.) [IPADMIN]show control interface
2h.) [IPADMIN]reset
2i.) Log back into IPSI
2j.) [IPADMIN]show control interface (confirm address are correct)
2k.) [IPADMIN]show port 1 (confirm port speed is correct)
2l.) RELEASE IPSI

**You'll need to know how to set your NIC for a 192.11.13.5 address and access the IPSI at 13.6. Along with that - you'll then need to know the login/password. There in the forum (if you search you should be able to find them), but we try not to advertise too many times.

It very well may be on 2 separate subnets, you can verify by checking out the IP configuration for "Control Network A", and "Control Network B" under "Configure Server" on each S8720/S8730.

Then check the physical wiring and the VLANs on the ethernet switches, they are probably 2 separate VLANs, each with a small subnet.

Using the "WildPackets" IP subnet calculator (google it, you will find it), it is certainly possible they setup "Control Network A" as 170.34.187.0/28, which nets a valid IP range of .1 to .14, broadcast on .15

The same could be said for "Control Network B", is could be setup for 170.34.187.16/28, which nets a valid IP range of .16 to .31, broadcast on .31

You need to check out the Control Network configuration to see what was really done. Do NOT change any IPSI programming until you fully understand how it is currently setup.

Port Network 4 looks to be on a totally different subnet, perhaps that is a "Control Network C"...

Error, change "Port Network 4" above to read "Port Network 7", no way to edit a post, which is a problem with this site.
