We use relay-mode for pay-modems in a config where the analog extension is on a remote gateway whitout a local syncsource. So the modem(chip for traincards)which is set on a remote g650(we also tried a G350 whitout result)seems like not good handshaking to the interlocal modem. We have tried several things like pass-throuw.According to the documentation when there is no sync available you have to use relay. But with relay there is a max. speed of 9600 baud.
With other regular modemtraffic (like the usb modem on the s8300) everything works normally.
We use g.711 codec and have enough bandwith.
Before making an appointment with the modemsupplier is there anything that we overlook or has anyone else had this problem before?

the system is S8720 rel 3.1.4

Thankx,

I'd say...Check your med pros, insure they have v31 or higher (TN2602's) if they don't, update them.

Thanks,

We don,t have a 2602 but a 2302 with the latest firmware.

knoester,

Modems & IP Telephony do NOT mix well. You would be lucky to get 9600 baud through a remote gateway over a VoIP connection, even with a local sync source. Remeber, you are digitzing and sampling fast modem tones, it does not work well, period. FAX machines even are limited to G3 low speed usually 14,400 or slower (9600 works best). Even on a G650, with a PRI, set as a sync source, most cannot get more than 26.6, and, AVAYA will not gurantee anything above 9600. 14.4 sometimes, and 19.2 sometimes work. Even on the G650 it has a 440 or so timeslots on the TDM buss, and it is switching voice resources at high speed, again a problem for modems.

To be honest with you, your ABSOLUTE best solution, is to get POTS lines, they will work great. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
