Hello,

Is there a way to put a password on a folder on a server running Apache in Windows? I know it is possible in Unix, but what about Window?

Any help appreciated.

Because you can't really chmod folders in windows, can you?

Hi

When you ask on the Apache forum about password protecting a folder, people thinks to HTTP authentication. And that has nothing to do with the operating system or the file system.

Really not an apache question, but the NTFS file system gives fine grained permission control. If your disk is formatted with FAT you will not have this control.

Not as elegant as chmod, but right click on a folder, select properties, select the security tab.

.htaccess works on Windows as well as Linux apache servers. Use that to pasword the folder.
