Hi Guys,

This is the scenario. The president of our company wants to create a folder on her desktop that requires a password to access. Her computer is always on and logged in into her account during the day, so she is afraid anyone can sit on her computer and see the folder's contents. She wants it so that when she clicks on that folder, it will then ask her for a password to access it. Is there a way to do this? There's 2 NTFS partitions on her computer, D and E. Please advise.

Hi John,

I will talk to her about options 1 and 2. I doubt she will buy the 3rd one though (haha). I'm just curious however, I don't recall how to set a screensaver password in windows NT 4.0. Do you remember how? Also, when you say "lock", do you mean go to start->shutdown->close all programs and log on as different user? Or Is there another way? Thanks!

CTRL-ALT-DEL and choose the lock workstation option.
Have you discussed a possibility of creating a hidden folder in the root of C or D for your boss? If security is an issue, I wouldn't want a folder on my desktop.

Just a thought, WMH

You can lock the workstation as WMH outlines.

To set a screensaver password, right-click the desktop, select properties then choose the screensaver tab. Choose a screensaver (either an inbuilt one or you can download one) then tick the 'password protected' box. You'll now need the logon password to access the machine after the scrennsaver kicks in.

Cool tips. However, I dont believe she will like the hidden file method. In that case, she has to keep hiding and unhiding. I'll let you guys know..

Thanks for the tips. I must just set up a screen saver with a password.
