Hi,

Is there any way to password protect an email so that the receiver cannot open the email until a password is entered? I'm using Exchange 2000 server with Outlook 2000 on the client computers.

Thanks,

No. You could use some of the Digital Rights features, but that requires that the features be installed at both sides.

Having an email that can't be opened without a password would mean that AV software couldn't scan it (among other issues).

You can password protect a Word document and send it as an attachment. You can use a certificate to ensure it is not intercepted. But you cannot password protect an email.

Ok, that's what I figured also. The reason I'm looking into this is because we are dealing with some companies that are claiming that HIPAA compliant standards are now requiring certain emails containing personal information cannot be sent unless the email is password protected.

Thanks,
