On the network we have, there are Windows 98, 95 and 2000 Pro computers running and I am having trouble accessing the 2000 Pro computer from some of the other windows 98 and 95 computers. One day I had it all working and then the next one of the Windows 98 computer and then another windows 98 computer wasn't able to access the Windows 2000 Pro computer. It states that it needs a password to access and when I enter the password I set up, it says password incorrect. I know this means that something happened with the Windows 2000 pro security policies I think. Can anyone explain from the beginning how to set up groups, users, and domains on both the Windows 98 computers and the windows 2000 Pro computer?

WINS... LMHOSTS... Netbeui... done?

Security... User IDs... Domain versus Individual PCs...

W9x naturally don't like to talk to NT systems... you need to "encourage" them...

I play this "game" all the time at home and on the road at family and client sites and sometimes the easiest way is share floppy disks... (AKA "sneaker-net")

The short version is that the W2K box needs a sharepoint given SHARE and OS permissions that allow access by the users needing access... not enuf room here for the tutorial; but check out this link (.pdf available):

simple answer is you need accounts on the win2k machine with same user id/passwords as you use to logon to win9x machines.

Thanks. Really helped! Also, will I run into more trouble if another Win 2000 pro computer is put on the network, or will just having users with user names and passwords on each win 2000 pro computer work?
