Password Login Required

Can any tell me how I go about creating a password login for my main page. I want to allow access to certain pages within my web site to trade members. The idea is for them to register with us and then store their details in a database or text document for retreival later. once logged in and accepted the user can view a trade prices area otherwise it's a retail price area.
