Password Enabled but not set on Catalyst 3548

I have a Catalyst 3548 switch that when we try to login gives the message "Password required but not set" then kicks you out. I am afraid to go in and try to reset the password because I am afraid to lose the configuration that I am sure is not backed up.

that means there isn't a password set on either the vty interfaces or the enable password..

you can't mess it up if they're not there..

Thanks for the input. We were trying to telnet from a remote location and when we did a console connecection we found that we had a router with no configuration on it.

I guess you don't have to worry about backing it up now.
