Is it possible to place permissions on a non-shared local folder that will force a password to be entered regardless of who is logged in?

For example - I am the Administrator and have a folder on the C: drive called "BUCKET" which I need to protect. Unfortunately, due to a software setup requirement I can't change, several people use the same machine with the same logon ID, but only some of them should be allowed to access this folder. How can I force password authentication for this folder that is not dependant on who is logged on? Even entering the password once for each logon session would be enough.

The PC is XP Pro, and there is no network attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Convert the drive to NTFS if it is not already. Create user accounts for each user. Assign permissions under the security tab of the folders property page. Help and Support Center can help fill in the blanks Vince Grice

I hear what you are saying and if I could create seperate accounts for every user I would, but this PC manages an external production line device that can only handle working from a single account in the PC.

So the question remains, how can I place a password on a folder (NTFS partition) that is independant of the user account? Please help if you can.

Thanks

If you want to use real permissions like winNT then you can turn off simple file sharing in windows xp

here is how you do it

open my computer>tools>folder options>view> and down at the bottom of the list you will see turn off simple file sharing and now you are back to real NT permissions
