passwd and bus error??

When I try to change user passwords (including root). I get a bus error. Any one see this before?

Can you paste here the actual error message, please?

All I get is "Bus Error" and the password is not changed. It happens after I enter the new password for the second time.

Hi,

I know, you are familiar with changing password. Can you tell us step by step on how you change user password and as what user. At least I can re-produce this step on my system.

# passwd
enter new password for root: XXXXXXX
conferm password: XXXXXXXX

bus error!

does that same thing for all users

do you see any rare message in /var/adm/message ? or something related to the "bus error"?
