Have a customer with an older Partner Mail attached to a Partner system that wants to create some guest mailboxes.

The system lets me create them and I can login to them, we used mailbox numbers 75 -85, extensions range thru 45, and we can login to them, however I can't figure out how to transfer callers to them.

I also can't get the auto attentant to allow transferring to a 7 or 8 leading digit.

Am I doing something wrong or does the switch just not support this function?

The Partner system, depending on the processor, support extensions ranging from 10 through 33, or 49, or 57.

So first, it's best to create guest mailboxes starting from the end of the range working backwards.

When that's not possible, create extensions and be sure to pick a class of service that does not include Call Transfer (that way, when transferring from the Auto Attendant, it won't try to send the call to the phone system first, knowing that there is not a physical phone associated with it.

Finally, if you have mailboxes outside of your actual extension range, you will need to transfer the caller to 777, remain on the line for VM to answer, then dial *8 and the mailbox number before hanging up to complete the transfer.

OK I set the COS on the VM boxes to 9, the manual I have doesn't let a table with them in it but I found reference to the fact that COS 7 and 9 do not include call transfter.

I also verified that digits 7 and 8 on the auto attendent are sent for Direct Extension Transfer, I'm using VM Boxes 75-81 as guest mailboxes.

You can now tranfer an inbound call to the mail boxes via transfer, 777, *8, followed by the mailbox number, however callers cannot dial these extensions directly from the auto attendant by simply entering the extension number, i.e 75. They have to dial *8 followed by the extension number. All other mailboxes with an extension associated with them allow you to simply dial the extension from the auto attendent.

Any ideas? Could this simply be a limitation of the version of Partner Mail I'm working with?

Thanks,

Dave

Don't make the mistake of using the extension ports of the VM for mailboxes. once a message is left any of htem the mw light is turned on the ports lock up.

On 3rd part voice mails where you can disable the MW light for the mail boxes you can actually use the VM port extension numbers for guest mailboxes (with the message lamp notification disabled)

Yes, it may be a limitation of the Partner Mail. They also might not recgonize extensions outside of the "normal" range of 10 - 57, plus 71-74 and the General Mailboxes 9991-9994
