Hello,

I recently bought a system which i got it assembled with a local vendor. I've 20GB hd installed on my system. Now i want to partition it so that i can use multiple OSs on my system. Since i'm new to these partition and other stuff, can anyone tell me as to where i can learn much about partitioning of hds using fdisk and others? Or else which is the easiest way to learn about such stuff?

Expecting ur replies.

Partition Magic is the easiest tool to use for this, since you can partition your drive without wiping it first. PM also provides a Graphical Interface and menus, so it is easy to see what you are doing.

To repartition using fdisk, you would probably need to start from scratch. Fdisk has a very cold text interface, but most who work on their computers are happy with that!

The best way of using this tool is to boot from a system floppy. The menus are fairly self-explanatory, but you must remember to make a partition active before attempting to install an O/S on it.

Once you have repartitioned your disk(s) and made the partitions active, you should then format the primary partition. You can leave all of the other partitions, since, for example, Windows 2000 will offer you the option to format the filesystem within the setup routine, but ir depends on having an existing formatted partition to store its setup files. Linux will not care about partitions being formatted, but will not install onto an inactive partition.

Here's a really good step-by-step guide, in case I've successfully confused you!

Good Luck!
