I just set up a 60Gig Hitachi HD with a Windows 2000 and when I use FDISK I can see it looks pretty normal. The only thing funny is in DOS there is no volume name, but in Windows there is. Anyway Ghost can't find the partition and the SMART status of the drive is bad. This is new to me. Does that sound like a bad drive? Is there anything I can do at this point so I don't have to start over. I'm typing from this computer right now. When I put this drive in another computer or try to read the files in DOS it says I have like 11 million bytes and no files found. What is this SMART status anyway?

SMART =

If you get an error from SMART, it's bad. If the Hard Drive is still under warranty, get a replacement.

If it can't be read in DOS, it may be formatted as NTFS (which can only be read by Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003). Right-Click the Drive in My Computer, and choose Properties. What does it say under "File System"? If it is NTFS, then that's your problem (or at least one of them) with the whole DOS thing.

What make is the drive? Maxtor? Western Digital? Samsung? What's the model number? (You can download and run "SiSoft Sandra" to find out - search google for it)

Go to their website, and try to find a Drive Tester Utility to test the Drive for physical errors (these normally have to be run from a bootdisk).

Reply it had FAT32, it could be read with a boot disk. I used that ACRONIS true image since Ghost wouldn't work. I like it. But I ended up taking FAT32 off and tried again with Norton Ghost 7.5. I rebooted with a floppy and couldn't see the NTFS partition like I expected(I did not expect to not see FAT32 as before). Anyway I was able to ghost it this time. But I will try to download that drive test utility. That's all that's necessary, thanks.
