partition/volume is not enabled 1

I've been called in to fix someone's partition problems resulting from use of Partition Magic. The D: drive is now no longer recognized by Win2000 SP4. When I try to assign a drive letter in the disk manager, the error message is that the operation cannot be completed because the partition/volume is not enabled. I am requested to reboot to enable, but that does not work. Since file system is FAT32, I was able to mount the hard drive in a Win98 PC and back up the files. Deleting D:, recreating and reformatting in FAT32 with fdisk from a Win98 boot diskette or doing the same from the recovery console using diskpart and formatting with ntfs did not result in D: being recognized in the Win2000 GUI.
Any suggestions?

uninstall partition magic for one.

there are a lot of problems which can stem from the program... but that would be the first place i'd look at fixing the problem.

The problem lies in the MBR. If you still intend FAT32, use the Win98 fdisk utility:

fdisk d: /cmbr
