Hi all,

Firstly, I must apologise if this has been answered before. I've searched but can't seem to find anything.

I recently had to format my laptop's hard disk (virus related) and now i've decided to install Windows XP. I have a 10GB hard disk and 128MB RAM.

Can someone recommend what partition sizes to use. I would like one for the OS, one for apps i'm going to install (approx 3 GB) and one for user files.

Also I have been told that it's better for performance to create a seperate partition for the swap file. Is this true and what size should it be?

Thanks in advance.

With a total size of 10 gigabytes, I would have only one partition.

I have never seen anyone happy with a system partition of 3 gigs under XP, one never knows how large your requirements will be for application software, a lot of application software will stubbornly refuse to install any where else but c:\Program Files, and there are zero speed benefits from placing the pagefile on a different partition of the same hard disk. (there are advantages if there exist multiple hard disk drives).

My vote: one partition.
