i ran partition magic on my ntfs 5.1 formatted 40gb drive (running winxp pro) to create an extra partition onto which to install redaht linux 8.0.I was stupid and arrogant enough not to create a recover disk and now all is not so good!

I have made my first partition (winxp) so that it canot be read...im not sure how, even when i plug it in another winxp or 2k box. i was wondering if anybody recommends a FREE package which i could use to recover the partition (i know all the data is there, an evalution repair package showed me..but would not fix it!) or rescue my files? please help....id b ok but im only 16 n dont have a credit card to buy these types of software :(

Thanks guys

Dear Yahoo... (sounds like a lovelorn columnists response - sorry)
First, are you adding the failed disk as a secondary drive in the other box... if not, do that and 2K or XP will be able to read the NTFS partition.. If that fails, install pqmagic on the other box, while the failed disk is installed and see if you can manipulate the partitions that way... Are you getting a specific error message...? If it says that ntoskrn.exe is missing, you can easily fix that by manipulating the ARC path in the boot.ini file... again, this will be easier if the hd is loaded as a seconday in the other box...
