I have a server with three partion on one drive named c, d and e. The c drive which contains the operating system has become full and i now want to transfer the content of d to a new drive to enable c to be resized and therefore increased.

I have looked at software such as partion magic but there is no support for dynamic disks. Is there a software solution of fix that anyone can think of?

I have to bear in mind that this is a server and therefore i have to be very confident that the solution will work .

Many Thanks

Here's one approach:
[ol]full backup[/ol][ol]add a disk or two[/ol][ol]make the new disks dynamic[/ol][ol]mount them to empty folders on C: drive[/ol][ol]restore the data to the new disks (which still look like part of your C: drive)[/ol]

Actually, there are thousands of scenarios... hopefully this helps...

But remember to have a good backup handy before you try anything!!!

As far as I am aware no utility can do dynamic disks - Microsoft haven't fully released the structure they use for their dynamic disks.

Ash.

Thanks jtb for your reply.

I would really like to keep this as simple as I can without having to restore data.

All I would like to do is delete the d drive and somehow let c take over the space left by the d drive.

I am a bit hesitant about using volume mount points on the system partition as no one folder really has that much data in it. This would also require quite a lot of maintenance (checking to see if any folder is increasing too much for the partition).

Is there any way of pulling out the partition boundary on c?

Thanks again
