parameter query data types

When I do a parameter query, I enter the between [start date] and [end date] in the design grid and they seem to be working fine. I found an article (and looked it up and my manuels) that says I MUST enter the "data type" in the "Query Design Box" since the default data type is text. Should I go back and make the changes to all of my parameter queries, or is it really not necessary.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. As it seems to working, no need to change anything.
