Hello,
I'm trying to install an OS on a laptop that does not have a CDROM and I was told by a friend that there is a way to connect the laptop to my PC with just a male/male parallel port cable. So does anyone know where I can go to the drivers or software to do this with?? My friend said something about an Intr or Interlink site or something like that, I searched them pages but couldn't find anything.. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Intersvr, interlnk from msdos, 6.0 and up.
Or you could do it through the serial ports.
Or look for lantasticz on the web.
I have also transferred files through the serial port using GWBASIC moving a byte at a time. Or through a parallel/serial converter the same way.
You could also use a program "laplink".
Hope this gives you enough to go on. Ed Fair

What OS do you have (win98, win2K, etc)? I would stick with Parallel which should be a tad bit faster than Serial. Windows 95 and later support "Direct Cable Connection". You could use 3rd party apps if you like which will give you more capabilities. But, DCC in Windows should work fine...

If you had an old operating system you would still have to purchase a special cable to transfer the files. However if you have no operating system it may be difficult to get networking to work in DOS.

I was thinking about a device called a PEN DRIVE it is a USB Flash SmartMedia Drive you just plug into the USB port and copy the data and then plug it into the other system. I saw it in sizes of 128 MB for about $86.00. They make other drives up to 1 Gig. It is the size of your thumb. I think Actiontech also makes a USB networking kit. A Zip Drive may also be an option. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Be sure to get a laplink parallel cable, not a "straight through" one. Forget about the serial link cable type. The parallel type is slow enough. Alternatively if you look in the help in the DOS directory you will find a diagram showing you how to make your own parallel cable to do the job. See INTERLNK--Notes in the DOS help.
(MSDOS 6.22)

Or get a parallel port CD or hard disk drive.

Or an external parallel port Zip drive. 95C and higher would require 2 disks full to transfer the load stuff. Ed Fair
