I am working on a hotel directory in indesign and i need to update the list. My new list is a word .doc. When i copy and insert the new list it doesn't preserve the same look (style) of the old list. How can i add the new list and keep the same look with out having to go back one by one and bolding the titles of each hotel and changing the body of each listing?

Copy the list from word and paste into InDesign in a separate box on the paste board. Reselect all your text in that box.

Paste select the text you want to replace and paste it using Paste Without Formating or CTRL + Shift + V

But if you have a screen shot of the directory, just one page, I would be able to further assist in this problem.

I have problems copying and pasting text from one InDesign document to another. It seems it has to do with the nested stylesheets.

The listings have a nested paragraph style applied to them. The first line is Futura Bold and the rest of the paragraph is Futura Book. When I copy and paste it into a new document, the entire listing changes to Futura Medium. I've checked my default fonts, my preferences, basic paragraph fonts, etc. It also still shows that the paragraph stylesheet is applied, but it's altered. I'm stumped.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

thanks

You need to find out what special character is used to diferentiate between the styles.

You can do this by editing the style, going to the Drop Caps and Nested Style section of the dialogue box and then looking at the way it is nested.

Nested styles override the the Pargraph Style settings and uses Character styles to style the fonts.

Here's little bit on Nested Styles
