Being fairly new to Dreamweaver, I cannot fathom out how to alter the spacing between paragraphs, using something like "space before" and "space after". I am presuming that it is done within Paragraph Styles but cannot see anything pertaining to this feature in the Style Menus.

Can anyone help? (In very simple terms please)

You need to assign a height value in the p style.

1 Open a document
2 open your properties panel (if not open)
3 In the Style dropdown select Manage Styles
4 Choose New>"Selector Type: Tag">In the dropdown select the 'p'
5 Choose either New Style Sheet(useful to be able to utilise in other pages) or choose This document only
6 Click Ok
7 In the style definition panel that opens go to "Positioning"
8 Set the Height to whatever you require

so where do we stand with <p> is it being depreciated or not (i try and keep up with changes but most of the time i just do what works). I prefer DIVS instead of P.

good thing i dont do this for a living i guess.
