I have a template inherited from a windows pc (with office 2003) that has its styles set as "Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style".

how do i override/change this in office 2004 for Mac?

Select the Style and then use Format, Style and clear the check box option for 'Don't add space between paras of the same style'.

sorry for not being clear ;-) the mac version of office does not have the check box that you refer to. unfortunately i do not have easy access to any windows boxes any more (the last having been destroyed by my lawnmower

That's tricky. Check under Tools, Options, Compatibility to see if there is a setting for that option in there.

no help there. i think this is just a buggy omission in office for mac.

Do you have iWorks? If so I would try importing the template into Pages and see if that helps you. (iWorks might be worth a look anyway if you don't have it. I really like it now.

Worth considering getting an old PC that can run your PC software. (I assume you still have the software disks.) 4-year-old machines mostly go cheap.

bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut though! actually i have a bunch of pcs in my lab but my licences for office are all OEM and tied to laptops that are either lawnmowered or in use elsewhere. i ended up installing parallels and an evaluation copy of office. makes it easy to get rid of once i was finished.

i still maintain the omission is a bug though.
