my hot sync worked well for about 3 months. Then i started to get the following message.

"the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check you setup and try again."

I have tried everything, even the hyperterminal, reassigning com port IRQ address and uninstalling and reinstalling. The plam just wont see the comport. any ideas???

thanks in advance

try going into the bios to see if the serial port is enabled. -God Bless

the port is enabled in bios and it is not a usb connection but a serial conection. i am using win 2000 which is usb compatible.....

Do you have the latest version of Palm desktop installed? if so try clicking the hotsync icon in the tray and clicking "serial". -God Bless

This might not sound useful, but it worked for me. It was obviously working fine before. Just backup your stuff uninstall the whole thing and start again from scratch. It does that sometimes. Checking IRQ's and stuff doesn't help.

Hey sounds like you fried your com port. I just went through this at work and ended up having to by usb adapters.
$28 Comp USA- Electrostatic discharge built up in your palm (Doorknob Spark) and when you placed it on you cradle your enevitably fried your com port. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this was the solution that I came up with. There is a law firm in Cali that has a class action lawsuit against them. Do a web search on the whole Palm, ESD, and hot sync issues and you will find news articles on the issue. Good luck.

zilla--

if thats the answer i am psyched...buying a usb adapter now!!!
