Hi.

Firstly, when starting a new document, you have to enter the size and pixels etc etc for a default graphic. Is there anyway this can be switced off so that you start with a complety blank page?

If it's not possible to do what i asked above, how do you get rid of the initial graphic. You see, last night i was creating a sphere via the shapes option, but that initial graphic was there underneath it and i couldn't get rid of the thing - which was very frustarting.

Appreciate any help greatly :)

I think your problem might be that the optional grid lines are enabled.

Click on the view menu and uncheck "grid".

Hope this works.

Thanks for your reply.

Nope, it's not what you suggested. You see it's the banner you HAVE to make at the start what i can't get rid off. I know you can change the size/shape/color of it, but when i try and change it into a shape, the shape just goes over the banner so then there's two layers created. Now, i could get rid of the underlying banner by 'cropping' it, however, trying to crop around a sphere type shape is nigh impossible to do with the tools available. Hope this extra info can help.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I'm baffled. What does the banner look like?

LRH

BTW, the easiest way to crop round a sphere or any object is to use the magic wand to select the background, use Selections/Invert and then Image/Crop To Selection.

Ok.

When you start a new document,a window appears asking you to choose the image 'dimensions' and 'characteristics'. when you have done this, the image apperas. Now, when i try to turn that image into a sphere, it doesn't work. The sphere just goes on-top of the image, even if the image is made transparent it still has a chess-board style pallette.

I think banner me calling it a "banner" was confusing you. Anyway, hope this extra info can help.

P.S> tried cropping the Sphere, was to difficul to get right.

Ok, just to add that when i do that crop thing you suggested it's crops everything down, but the Sphere still has the chess-board looking background undernaeth it. I just want the sphere on it's own-nothing else.

Cheers :)

Think/hope I've understood this time ...

When opening the new image, make sure the background isn't set to transparent.

Fingers crossed.

Just before i got the Email notifying me of your response, i was uploading the sphere image onto my webspace so i could show you what i meant. When i uploaded the sphere image, the background didn't appear(yay!) It was just the Sphere on it's own, which is what i wanted. This is a bug in the programme if you ask me because on the 'full screen preview' it shown the sphere with the background - hence why i was confused. So selecting transparent does actually make it transparent it's just that it doesn't go transparent until it's saved to disk.

Anyway enough babbling. Problem sorted. Thanks again for your help.

Glad we got there! :)

Hopefully helpful P.S. - if you check out the colours menu you'll find you can set and view transparency from there.

Hi gsupernovaman,

Just a very quick point - the grey and white checked background that you get in paintshop pro IS the transparency. So any area that appears as grey/white checks (depending on your default settings) are classed as transparent. So if, when you create a new image, you select 'transparent background' your image will be composed entirely of grey/white squares; as this is how PSP represents transarency.
