I have a database that at one time was an Access97 database. Ran fairly well in a multi-user environment. However, since switching over to a Access2000 front end, Access97 back end scenario it's slow and unstable. I was wondering if there is a painless way to convert the database to SQL Server ?

When you enable a 97 database to allow 2000 to use it Access creates copies of the object in both 97 and 2000 formats. You may have noticed the database bloat.

If you can fully convert the database to 2000 and see if that helps.

There is an Ugrade to SQL wizard in 2000 but I can't remember if it was in 97. Check Tools, Database Utilities

I had the same situation Access2000 front end for users with Office 2000 and Access 97 front end for users with Office97. Obviously the backend needed to be Access97 for comapatability. Where this setup was running on a site with a Novell network there were huge probelms with database corruption. On anaother site with NT there were no such problems. Eventually the novell site was changed to Access2000 front and back with some improvement, but still not ideal.

I tried the SQl upsize wizard (which took half a day to run) but the result was not good. I think it would have taken months of work to ugrade to SQL server.

Sorry I can't be more positive.
