Paging System No Longer Works

Hi,

I have a paging system that has stopped working and wondered if there was anything related to the RDB I should look at in LD 21 that might tell me what's going on? I'm not sure what details to provide at this time so if there's anything I can provide to make the situation a little more clear, let me know.

@bigindian65: Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It's at a remote location and wanted to find out if there was something I could check before making the long haul out there. Thanks.

have someone try to page, then trace the call in LD 80, see if it is getting to the trunk.
If you know of no programming changes made in the system (to your knowledge) I would check out the amplifier, to make sure it has power etc (or whatever device stands in for an amp)Can someone eyeball it to see if there are any lights or indications of power.
Of all the problems we see with the dozen or so paging systems we have, by far the most issues are the paging system itself, from people turning down individual speakers, to cables mysteriously breaking after the electricians have been working in the area.

Throw a butt set on the trunk, hit the ACOD for that paging system and if you get good audio out of the buttset, the problem is further downstream.

@trvlr1: Below is the output of the line for the paging system while nobody's calling it and then after I dial the number to page.

@nessman: I'll have to give that a try. There's one at my location but I'm not sure if it even works anymore.

Looks like the call is going through. AS Nessman says, put a butt set on it (where it connects to the paging amp/system). If you hear the page on the butt set, the PBX and wiring is good and you need to look at the paging system, if not, you need to check the wiring and the output from the PBX.

Looks like it's built as a loop start trunk, not an actual paging trunk. That being the case then it's probably accessing some type of Zone Page unit, like a Valcom, where you have to dial a zone # after getting connected. If it was just an amplifier with an aux input then it should be built as a PAG trunk

unplug the paging unit and plug it back in. could be the valcom or bogen unit. Not an uncommon problem.

@KCFLHRC: I think you're right. There is a Valcom v-1109RTVA unit that some volume knobs connect into. And you do have to dial a number for a particular zone after dialing the paging extension. Would the output above for the paging setup be correct in this case?

Yes, if it's a valcom unit then your config looks fine. The valcom unit may have puked. Check likely things, power, volume knobs etc. You can also access that valcom unit with a butt set to test it. Typically the w/bl pair off the valcom is the T&R to the trunk card.

The 1109 RTVA is a 9 zone page control unit. If you go to Valcom's website you can download a PDF installation manual.

The answer ended up being something extremely simple. I had never worked with any devices where the power was supplied to it by way of a power adapter that has terminal connectors that you screw down ethernet wires to. But basically the white/blue wire had broken off and the paging zone box ceased to get power. After removing some more of the sheathing on the white/blue cable and screwing it back down the power was restored to the paging zone box. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions.
