Hi All,

How can I clear the paging file in windows XP HOME edition when I shutdown the PC?
 
Start, Run, regedit

Make this simple change:
Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Path: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
Key: ClearPageFileAtShutdown
Type: REG_SZ
Value: 1
 
bcastner, are there benefits to clearing the page file?

There are security benefits, as it would prevent someone from using low-level tools to scan your pagefile for hints as to what you were doing.

I do not see credible performance benefits. (And in fact shutdown and startup are much, much slower). There are some usefull pagefile utilities:
